Newborn Session Info

Katie Lou has several years of experience photographing newborns, and has many tips and tricks to make sure your session runs smoothly. When you book your session, you can expect a great list of tips and tricks in your inbox. Katie adores photographing (and snuggling!) newborn babies. She loves capturing the sweet little wrinkles, and tiny features that babies outgrow way too quickly. Often the first days for parents are a blur of feedings, bathing, and diaper changing. That makes newborn photography even more important and dear to our hearts!

The best time for booking your newborn session is when you are still pregnant. Most clients book by the 2nd trimester. I always schedule for your due date, and then the actual session will take place within the first 10 days of life. Because these sessions need to be done no later than 10 days after birth, it is highly important that you do not wait until your baby is born to try and book a newborn session.

Newborn safety is of up most importance, and Katie Lou always has the safety of your baby in mind. Please keep in mind that some images you may see on this site are composites made in Photoshop. Babies are NEVER placed in breakable containers or put into a dangerous position, and there is always a extra set of hands nearby to help keep newborns safe and secure.

Newborn sessions may be done here in my home, or in the comfort of your own home, provided you have a door, or window that allows some nice natural light. Most homes do! All newborn sessions are scheduled at 10:30am to ensure we have the right type of lighting, and amount of time to photograph your baby.

Katie has a nice stash of newborn blankets, props, headbands and hats. She always like to order something new for each baby, and you are welcome to make color suggestions should you want to coordinate with your baby’s nursery, and we will do our best to accommodate. You are also welcome to bring any special hats, headbands, blankets, diaper covers, or loveys to incorporate into your session.

You can expect your newborn session to last anywhere from 2-4 hours. Parent and sibling shots are included in your session at no additional cost, and they are highly encouraged.
